The United States is an Arctic Nation — it’s time we started acting like it. I’m glad @POTUS has created this Arctic Ambassadorship. It’ll put our country at the table, and help make sure competitors aren’t getting an upper hand in the High North. https://t.co/PfeUpswHUM
Three days in The County! (That’s Aroostook County in northern Maine to those of you From Away). Some more photos from my trip on Instagram: https://t.co/ITOvsKu9hP https://t.co/95nKsa0Jww

As Russia continues their unprovoked attack on Ukraine, the threat of retaliation via cyberattack against the U.S. or our allies is real. From the government to the private sector, we need to continuously prepare for modern cyberattacks from Putin. https://t.co/cGyWecUm06
China has broken yet another promise to the global community, this time to Maine’s lobster industry. @ChelliePingree, @RepGolden, and I are demanding transparency and accountability for China’s broken trade deals. https://t.co/syN2zVK38F
In the days ahead, I look forward to reviewing President Biden’s nominee to fill the seat on the Supreme Court and making a judgment on his or her qualifications to serve on the highest court in the land.
Justice Stephen Breyer has served the nation with thought, skill, and dedication over his nearly 28 year-tenure on the Supreme Court. I’m grateful for his important contributions to the Court and the country, and wish him well in his retirement.
.@JRosenworcel has the experience, expertise, and dedication required to lead the @FCC with distinction and help expand the promise of the internet to every pocket of this country. She’s the right person for the job, and I’m grateful that she has been confirmed for another term.
Maine’s tourism industry supports thousands of jobs and countless businesses. As “Vacationland” works to recover from the pandemic, this #AmericanRescuePlan funding will help our state bounce back stronger. https://t.co/AyDHbV8TJh
Russia's constant cyberattack campaign against the U.S. is a reminder that of the serious threat we face. We must all strengthen our cybersecurity practices – especially the private sector, which controls over 80 percent of the nation’s threat exposure. https://t.co/Y4PY6OmbGV
The #AmericanRescuePlan continues to deliver aid for Maine towns to restore their economies and help families in need. Appreciate the Mills Administration helping distribute these funds — I urge Maine municipalities to apply before October 24th. https://t.co/PWKd6Iznew

I am all for smart, data-driven decisions that keep the American people safe from COVID – but as Canada’s vaccination rates rise and foreign travelers visit the U.S. through air travel, preventing vaccinated Canadians from driving over the border makes no sense.
The closure of the Maine-Canada border is hurting our state’s economy and culture, preventing people on both sides of the border from seeing loved ones. I joined a letter with colleagues urging @POTUS to open the border to vaccinated Canadians. https://t.co/K0IeNOktWa
I never enjoy leaving Maine – especially after a busy week with visits from @SecNav and @SecretaryGranholm – but there’s work to be done. Headed back to DC to advance key infrastructure investments, fight for voting rights protections, and get answers on our Afghanistan exit.

The Senate’s bipartisan infrastructure bill will have a major impact on Maine’s rural communities, from a historic broadband expansion to key funds to repair roads and bridges. I talked with @WAGMTV in the County about the benefits coming to rural Maine. https://t.co/piX2vMIYsV
The legislation’s $65 billion for broadband infrastructure will be absolutely transformational. Just as rural electrification did in the 30s, these broadband investments will help connect every American community to the infrastructure that powers modern life.
The bill includes $110 billion in funding for roads and bridges, $55 billion to support clean drinking water and address PFAS contamination, $20 billion for airports of all sizes, nearly $17 billion to strengthen the nation’s port infrastructure…the list goes on and on.
The IIJA also acts on what I view as America’s two biggest national security imperatives by confronting climate change and bolstering America’s cybersecurity. These are threats to the core of our society, and cannot go unaddressed; the nation will be safer because of this bill.
I’m extremely proud to have played a part in this bill – but the work isn’t done. I'm ready to keep pushing so we can get this legislation over the finish line.
After lengthy bipartisan negotiations, I am proud to say that we have passed a bill that will bring immense benefits to the people of Maine and Americans across the country. The IIJA is nothing short of historic. My full statement: https://t.co/wUvj2OrvTY
David’s insights were incredibly valuable to the committee, and his work – and the work of Friends of Acadia as a whole – are deeply important to Maine. I’m grateful for David’s voice and continued efforts to make @AcadiaNPS one of our nation’s jewels.
Last week, Friends of Acadia President David MacDonald testified at a hearing I chaired in the Senate Subcommittee on National Parks to discuss the challenges facing the @NatlParkSystem and the work of partner organizations to support these treasures. https://t.co/pDSYuOJkds
The ransomware attack on Colonial Pipelineorder is a dangerous reminder that in order to protect our critical infrastructure, we must build trust and encourage open communication between the private sector and the government. More from @GlobeOpinion: https://t.co/6frEOO9YxA
A great chat with folks from @MaineChamber and @MaineDECD Commissioner Heather Johnson today about the importance of high-speed, affordable broadband access to Maine’s future, and the historic broadband investments coming to Maine through the #AmericanRescuePlan. https://t.co/BL5ApRiM01
I was deeply impressed by the professionalism and patriotism of the leaders and service members who are spearheading this essential part of America’s national security; I’m grateful for their work, and deeply committed to making sure they have the resources they need for success.
As the new Chairman of the Senate Strategic Forces Subcommittee, my first trip was to two of our key bases in the backbone of our nation’s nuclear line of defense at @Offut_AFB and @TeamMinot. https://t.co/1EkffYUjhu
The American Rescue Plan is making historic investments in broadband – but in order to maximize the impact of these funds, we need accurate data. This week, I joined a group of my colleagues in pushing the @FCC to work with states in updating our nation’s broadband maps. https://t.co/Av5MB9S5cj
Throughout Maine and across the globe, the contributions and leadership of women are invaluable and essential. On this #InternationalWomensDay, we must all recommit ourselves to the work of advancing gender equality at home and all over the world.
In this month’s edition of Inside Maine, Senator @LisaMurkowski and I discuss bipartisan solutions ahead in the 117th Congress, and the best way to come to an agreement on the next COVID-19 relief bill: by working together. Listen here: https://t.co/0091GeMWDe
At this fragile moment for our nation, I’m grateful for the opportunity to share Maine, our values, and vision for the future with @Jon_Wertheim and @60Minutes. I thank them for their time and thoughtful questions — hope you can tune in tonight ~8PM! https://t.co/uGWefbMlNQ
Pardons for Manafort and Stone, which clearly rewards their silence, is an abuse of the power, an affront to the Constitution, and an insult to the people of this county.
A new record high, two days before Christmas. This holiday season, please be safe and smart — for yourself, and your loved ones. The story of Hanukkah reminds us that miracles can be found in the darkest moments, if we keep the flame of hope alive and continue believing that brighter days lie ahead. This year, these lessons resonate even more deeply; Mary and I wish #ChagSemeach to all who celebrate.

We lost a lion of justice last night. John Lewis fought every day of his life for the simple promise at the heart of the idea of America—liberty and justice for all. Rest in peace; John Lewis; you will never be forgotten. https://t.co/wrJZ6ct6He

To help enact these layers, we’ve created six pillars of deterrence and more than 75 specific recommendations focused on improving security in both the public and private sectors. Some of our key findings:
There is no silver bullet here, but there may be silver buckshot. America needs to pursue layered cyber deterrence by enhancing our defenses at home, reducing benefits for those who would try to exploit our cyber vulnerabilities, and imposing costs for those who cross the line.
The CSC brought together bipartisan Members of Congress – including my co-chair @RepGallagher, @SenSasse, and @RepLangevin – top executive branch officials, and industry leaders, drawing from the different perspectives we need to face this pressing challenge head on.
America’s tax laws should be applied equally to everyone, no matter their means – but as the IRS’s resources dwindle, the agency is focusing on low-income taxpayers and reducing their audit rate of wealthy Americans. I’m urging the OMB to fix this by funding the IRS: https://t.co/DAZbD9RS9Q
