The bar charts on the right show the actual values for each year we have data. For example, in 2008, Utah had 190 new wells drilled.

The 2009 data provided by Utah’s Division of Oil, Gas and Mining is incomplete. The enforcement staff data listed represents all members of the oil and gas division.

In Utah, much of the oil and gas drilling takes place on land that is federally regulated, which can include national parks or Native American reservations. Data provided by the Bureau of Land Management represents wells drilled on that land.
