@ShaferJ4428 You must not have been following my twitter account for two long- there’s definitely a lot of “blaming anesthesia” (if you still count me as “anesthesia”) going on!
(2/6) There are a lot of different masks out there today. When you #WearAMask, follow these do’s and don’ts! https://t.co/SYpr8dp1gD
(3/6) When you #WearAMask, be sure to do so correctly. Both your and should be covered. Your mask should fit snugly against the side of your face and be secure under your chin. https://t.co/WqyQzIB3ZE
(4/6) Knowing how to take off your mask is important too. Follow these 4⃣ steps to safely remove your mask. https://t.co/LruTBiHjVT
(5/6) Masks should be washed regularly, just like any other article of clothing you wear. Here’s what you need to know: ▪️ You can wash your mask w/ other laundry & regular detergent ▪️ Use warmest settings (as appropriate for the fabric) More: https://t.co/EtLTfO6ilz https://t.co/q38JBUEkGQ
(6/6) Have other questions about how to #WearAMask & clean it? Be sure to check out @CDCgov’s overview here: https://t.co/2kqpOJUEJE https://t.co/Mg25wXT9RD
(1/6) This #SundaySpotlight on #PublicHealth is all about masks – a key tool we can all use to prevent the spread of #COVID19 and protect those around us. https://t.co/5AywyvDamm

1/ A #COVID19 FAQ I often get is about “herd immunity.” Here’s a short thread with some relevant links but the punchline is this- in order for the numbers to work we’d need to accept 1.3 million U.S. citizens dead from the virus. https://t.co/v21Go0DcIU

2/ Heard immunity occurs when large enough percentage of us are exposed to an Infectious disease and become immune that the disease can no longer be significantly transmitted. Most health experts think this occurs at around 70% exposure. 70% times 330 million = 230 million.

3/ A great @CDCMMWR from a study done in Indiana estimates the case fatality rate for #Covid19 To be around 0.58%. 230 million people needed for heard immunity times 0.58% of them who die = 1.3 million people who must die to achieve this goal. https://t.co/7rIJry7RxN

4/ I personally think 1.3 million dead to achieve herd immunity is not only unacceptable but unnecessary. We can lower disease transmission significantly (NY has a positivity rate less than 1%) AND still reopen if we do three things: Wear masks Wash hands Watch distance

@JeromeAdamsMD
5/ How long must we put up with the inconvenience of washing our hands, wearing face masks, and avoiding crowds/keeping 6 ft between us and others? Likely only until the beginning of 2021 when we have a safe and effective vaccine- That’s a way to safely achieve herd immunity.

@JeromeAdamsMD
6/6 So asking about herd immunity is a fair question, but pursuing it is not a fair option to the over 1 million additional people who would give up their lives to make this a possibility. We can safely reopen and stop the disease in its tracks without such loss of life.

@VincentRK Hard to get people to sacrifice for a thread they don’t directly see. That’s why we have to help people understand that it’s not public health vs reopening or freedom, but rather that by following public health measures, we more quickly get to reopening and more freedom.
