Can anyone tell me why we STILL haven’t used the Defense Production Act to make sure we have tests? Why don’t we STILL have test that actually work with quick turnaround times? The reason the economy is still broke, is because Trump refuses to fix the crack!

I met both Chuck Schumer and Andrew Cuomo briefly, several times. Chuck was sort of funny. Andrew was gruff. But I really don’t them either. I doubt they could pick me out of a crowd.

I’m positive that Chris Jacobs knows them all, and many other prominent Democrats. Indeed, some may even consider him a friend. It’s uncomfortable to say that, but it’s true.

But he doesn’t share their values. I do. I am a Democrat, and although I may not fit into the social or class society confines of some other Democrats, I believe most share my values. I’m just not part of the clique.

I say this not to attack or insult. It’s a reality that politics is controlled by an elite few. It’s a realty that I want to change, and I believe many Democrats want to change. We need more, so called, “regular people” in politics.

But campaign finance and the increasing costs of elections have pressed Democrats and Republicans closer and closer together into a more and more awkward network of fundraisers and corporate ties. It’s all mushy.

You’ve seen the unsettling pictures documenting this. When I post these pictures, occasionally, I take hell for it. People get mad at me. They don’t want to see it. Look, I don’t want to see it. I wish those pictures didn’t exist.

Yet we all know, Republicans and Democrats alike, that Donald Trump himself was part of the clique—his association an unintended by-product of a broken system. Trump attended many, many lavish fundraisers that neither you, nor I, nor anyone you know, would have ever been invited.

The pages and pages of fundraising documents, corporate sponsorships, and Trump checks, denote that in America today the division is too often not been left versus right, but power versus no power.

My political autonomy and authority (whatever level I have) does not come from great wealth or social status. I’m not rich by political standards (or even the standards of the highest roller at your gym) for starters.

I grew up one of seven, worked my way up through law school and to become a Fulbright Scholar by doing part-time jobs.

Moreover, I didn't have a career in party politics before I ran for office. No internships. No campaign experience or letters of recommendation from Senators.

I sort of fought my way in, first running against Chris Collins—when no one thought I had a chance—and then against Jacobs. When we came so close, we were written off as a fluke. And now we are so close again, and people are trying to figure it all out. “Where does Nate fit?”

I fit with you, local chairs, volunteers, Americans. Certainly, some national figures have taken interest in my race. I’m grateful to be one of the few people in America to have sat down with Joe Bien to share blueberries and pancakes.

I got more than just a passing glimpse, and although we have our differences, the man is good and will be a great President. I’ve always said it. Heck, I told him to run. He laughed, probably already running.

Still, I very much remain on the outside, grassroots. I’ve never taken a dime of corporate money for any campaign I’ve run. Well over ninety percent of my money comes from individual donors like you. Shouldn’t it be like that for everyone?

Martin Luther King said once in a 1958 interview “I don’t think the Republican party is a party full of the almighty God, but nor is the Democratic Party.” King’s voting record, however, indicates he voted Democrat.

I think what he was saying is that we cannot accept hypocrisy in the Democratic Party or what Geroge Orwell might call “Groupthink,” which is the phenomenon where a group values conformity over truth; cohesiveness for the sake of cohesiveness—agreement at all costs.

That’s why I’ve always said, we need to “break the machine.” I’m not arguing that we should tear down the party. On the contrary, we need to make it stronger. And this might be our chance to do it!

I agree that at this moment we must be united to defeat Trump. You’ve seen me fight him. But it is not enough to just oppose Trump.
