Trump’s life long access to power—on both sides of the aisle, despite his repugnant beliefs—forces us to reassess the system. How could such a man weave so deftly in an out of the halls of power and finally into the Oval Office itself?

We must face this and many other difficult questions. Because this November is just not an chance to beat Trump. Its a chance to to rejuvenate the Democratic Party and our county.

So let’s recommit to the principles we must stand for. The Democratic Party must stand for: —Economic security for everyone, not just the top 5% —“Bubble-up” economy, because it never trickles down and giving money to the rich doesn’t create jobs

—Free enterprise system that is truly free, with opportunities for working people, not just global corporations —Political system (campaign finance reform; ballot access) where the voice of the weakest is equal to the voice of the strongest—that’s what Democracy is!

—Tax system that is fair and promotes innovation, rather than rewards greed and excess —Families, because paid sick leave, support with education, and public schools are investments that return to us all sevenfold

—Good government, because personal responsibility matters, but so does social responsibility, and good government is constructive, positive force to achieve social progress —Healthcare for everyone, so America no longer remains the only developed country without it

—Science and reason, not ignorance or hateful emotion and fear —Immigrants, because all people are our brothers and sisters and deserve respect

I could continue this list. There is much more in my heart, and that is what compels me to continue. This is not my job or my career, it’s my passion. My heart.

—Dignity for all, regardless of race, sexual orientation, religion, because our Constitution demands it —Respect for planet, because it is our home

And in the words of Shakespeare, my heart of my voice. Those who share this passion, this heart, need not worry. I’m with you, not to unseat or unsettle, but to make you stronger.

In Washington, I will form bonds with the mighty players in the Democratic Party and newcomers who share my values, alike. I go to forge bonds (with good people from both parties, all parties) with those who share my values and will fight for a better America.

And yes, I will fight for a better Democratic Party, not just when it’s convenient, but especially when it is not.

Remember, we Democrats are the spiritual heirs to FDR, who told us to fight freedom from fear, freedom from want.
