Vannevar Bush was in charge of US war technology in WW II. He was overlord of the Manhattan Project, making the A bomb. He was also in charge of radar development, a crucial technology of WW II. He had a long history helping run Raytheon, who made most of the US's radar tubes .

The heater in microwave ovens is the radar tube, developed for radar. In WW II, the US nuclear program was more important than radar, and radar scientists got re-assigned to nuclear. Microwave ovens were first called radar ranges, and microwaving food is still called nuking it.

Compliments of the 44th Infantry Division. May 31, 1945. The 1936 summer Olympics in Berlin was the famous one. My father is visiting the site of the 1936 winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The son of the commander of VI Corps (100,000+ men) died in a plane crash at a Belgian airport. Within hours my father was issued this pass. He figures to have driven top brass to HQ. He had to have been previously screened, to have been instantly selected for this chore. https://t.co/qZW6w5Qsra

After Germany surrendered, 44th Infantry was slated to go back to America, to be recycled for Japan. Until then, the 44th sponsored touristy trips to keep the soldiers out of trouble. Soldiers aren't supposed to send home pictures which would reveal military intelligence, so this one is not captioned. The trucks could haul equipment or people: surrendering German soldiers or recently freed laborers from conquered countries. The Allies needed workers too, these being much more voluntary.
