I am a lawyer with significant management, public relations, and government affairs experience. During my 30 year career in Washington, D.C., I have advocated on a variety of public policy issues while serving in government, corporate, and association environments. I have held senior positions in the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. I have practices law and have worked for three major corporations and two national trade associations. Advocacy, public relations, strategic planning, financial management, and grassroots/coalition building are among my areas of expertise. I have developed a broad range of communication skills that enable me to effectively communicate and interact with a diverse group of individuals. Through speeches, presentations, newsletters, and electronic media, I’m effective in engaging members and growing membership. I was successful in raising millions of dollars from business executives and employees to fund two of the nation’s largest corporate PACs. I was appointed by the USDA Secretary to manage the USDA’s 2005 Combined Federal Campaign, raising more than $2 million in volunteer contributions in four months for charitable organizations, setting a USDA record.

Dean A. Heyl (CFE), Vice President Government Relations and Tax Counsel, is responsible for federal, state and local issues affecting the franchise model in addition to providing research and advice on tax issues. Heyl previously worked for the Direct Selling Association as a state and federal lobbyist and was the Executive Director of the Coalition for Affordable Accounting. His public sector experience includes serving as a senior advisor in the offices of the Idaho Attorney General and Governor. From 2008 – 2011, he sat on the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council, which advises the IRS on tax administration policy, programs, and initiatives.

John K. Mashburn was a deputy cabinet secretary, who helps oversee the White House liaisons acting as the president’s eyes and ears at dozens of federal agencies. Mashburn, a prominent social conservative and congressional aide to the late Sen. Jesse Helms, worked for the Trump campaign as a policy director starting in April 2016. He also received $7,341 in consulting fees from the American Civil Rights Union this spring while he was employed by the White House. Started by a former Reagan administration official as a check to the American Civil Liberties Union, the nonprofit ACRU “monitors and counters organizations that threaten our constitutional rights and promotes election integrity,” among others things, according to its website. — ProPublica

Bronte Wigen, a politics major and George Washington Fellow, interned for the Heritage Foundation’s Center for Principles and Politics through the Washington-Hillsdale Internship Program. Bronte also completed a summer internship with Congressman Tom McClintock of California. This summer she will move back to Washington, D.C., and begin her career as a project assistant at the law firm Sidley Austin LLP.
