Project Description

The project consists of a package of coordinated water management and economic interventions designed to enhance the lives and economics of residents living in small communities in typical sub-watershed areas in Sar Hawza District, Paktika Province. The project is designed for individual sub-watershed areas.

Project Goals

1. Stabilize contributing watershed and reduce erosion.

2. Increase water storage capacity and availability.

3. Functioning irrigation system and a community trained to maintain it.

4. Stability through the diversification of the agricultural economy in the region.

4A. Small livestock, poultry, agriforestry, availability of nursery stock, and healthy and productive orchards.

4B. Post-processing and storage capacity including fruit drying and cool storage facilities. Comments: AIMS Category Description also includes Agribusiness and training for subsistence farming. Cost per person benefited is less than $250 USD.

Results

PRT Engineer talked with USDA rep Caroline Clarin, project was dissapproved by BDE because it was multi-year and too complicated. No PR&C was approved, no contract awarded. PRT USDA rep does not desire to pursue this project at this time.
