Project Description

This project will build an 8-Classroom school in the district of Ab Band in the village of Sarferaz. This is a Ghazni Governor Top-Twenty project.

Project Goals

Reason for Project: The district of Ab Band has been cut off in the past from IRoA assistance due to poor district leadership and corruption. The IRoA now has a strong influence in this area and has begun to demonstrate to the people of Ab Band their capacity and ability to make change. The new district Sub-Governor is constantly engaging the Provincial Staff for projects, and is holding multiple shuras to generator priorities on redevelopment. Based upon these shuras and working with the Provincial Minister of Education, the Ab Band Sub-Governor has determined that the immediate priority is the building of a secondary school in the village of Sarferaz. This village currently has no school buildings but a very active and succussful education system.

Desired Project Effects: Building this school in Sarferaz in Ab Band District will immediately support the efforts of the IRoA representatives in Ab Band district. The Sub-Governor, in conjunction with the elders, has been patient to work the IRoA approval system; building this school will support the process and emphasize the need to continue this progress. Additionally, building this school in Sarferaz will allow an operational school system to transition from outdoor schooling to a modern, in door facility, greatly enhancing the quality of the system.

Measurable Effects: Once the Sub-Governor and elders see this school being built, they will continue to hold district level shuras to support reconstruction through the IRoA; expect to see an increase of 2-3 reconstruction proposals per month from this district. Also, building this school will take the current students and move them into a new building, demonstrating to the people the initiative and hard work of their leadership. Comments: This project made it's way to the Governor's Top-Twenty reconstruction initiative because the Ab Band Sub-Governor with his elders pushed hard. They went from shura, to Governor Patan, to Minister of Education, and finally to the PRT.
