Project Description

Nawa District is the cornerstone of Helmand Province''s stabilization plan. Mobility is a key enabler of stability, and Nawa District is in need of significant upgrades to its road systems. The Nawa Civ-Mil Support Team is requesting this road paving project because it addresses security concerns, increases local industrial activity, enhances local commerce, and will associate GIRoA as addressing the needs of the population.

Project Goals

To pave a road of a former suburb of Lashkar Gah, where many residents in the northern and eastern areas pass through on thier way to further destinations to the west and south. With significant programs by AVIPA distributing large quatities of agriculture inputs for the upcoming growing season, an estimated 500,000 metric tons of horticulture output will be brought to markets around the surrounding areas. By completing this road a long term solution for local commerce, freedom of movement and increased security will be accomplshed increasing stability though Helmand Province. Comments: The Project Manager (COR) for this project is Maj John H. Rinaldi II.

3rd Battalion 3rd Marines are located at the begining of the road that extends to Lashkar Gah with patrol bases extended along the 40 KM section.
