Project Description

Request of $50,000 in bulk funds for the execution of the Commander''s Quick Impact Projects

Project Goals

To execute 10 x $5,000 or less projects that will support the Commander''s intent in TF TALON''s AO. The range of projects will be Speed Bumps along K-K Highway (HWY 1) in the Salar Bazaar and Shekhabad Bazaar areas, watershed projects in Nerkh District, Tangi Valley, and Sayed Abad, and Salar villages. Comments: This project is extremely urgent as numerous people are requesting immediate assistance at the different bazaars throughout Sayed Abad district due to security firms speeding along K-K Highway. Numerous children have been killed recently by the convoys.

Also, this area is known for its agricultural production, but due to different natural occurrences agricultural output has been severely diminished. Small projects are critical for restoration of the irrigation and watershed management in Wardak province.

Results

Funded three very successful DAIL projects which included vacinations of thousands of livestock and the training of local farmers in new techniques to make their farms more productive.

Funded two conferences one being the Wardak Peoples Development Conference which focused on running GIRoA on a fixed budget and how to work with in those confines. The Jalrez Womens Day Event was designed to help bring the women of Jalrez a sense of self worth and arm them with knowledge to help them acheive more in todays Afghan society.

Funded a condolance payment to a young man who lost his two testes.

Location - 42SVD8899006100

Project Name - Hoof & Mouth Vacinations

Project Leader - Director of Agriculture

Items Purchased 10,000 doses of Hoof & Mouth vacinations for the Director of Agriculture.

Purpose - To vacinate animals in the locale area to insure that the farmers herds are safe and healthy. This in turn will increase the value of the animals and the milk that they can produce. This project will help promote GIRoA in a real substantial way. This area and these animals were chosen by GIRoA because this is a very unstable area and any work done by GIRoA will help us bring stability to the area.

Project Details - Any one recipient was charged a minimal fee of 10 Afghani per dose to vaccinate their sheep or goats. This cost was used to defray the costs of the veterinary administration costs, as well as generate a small amount of revenue for future vaccine purchases. USDA/DAIL/etc did not choose the recipients, but instead wanted to ensure that a quality vaccine was available in the marketplace and available for purchase by any livestock owner in the area that needed the vaccine. Since livestock in Wardak is primarily on a subsistence level, it was the kuchi that utilized the vaccines the most.
