Project Goals

Padkhvab-e Shanah (PKS)is an agrarian based community that is unable to improve the current agriculture infrastructure due to a lack of water, over grazed rangelands and lack of grass lands. Loss of historical knowledge over the last three decades along with limited effective education in natural resource management has significantly impacted available ground water, agriculture land, forest land and graze lands. This project will improve the ground water in the watershed, increase vegetation, reduce erosion and flooding and help train the local populace on proper graze land management techniques. This project will also help train women organizations about proper nursery operations.

The purpose of this project is to implement basic watershed management devices such as contour terraces, gully plugs, rock bunds and check dams throughout the watershed VIC 42SWC 2131955595, Padkhvab-e Shanah(PKS). This project will enable farmers to conserve water by slowing movement across the surface of the ground and allowing infiltration into the aquifer, preventing massive erosion and flooding and begin restoration of the land that has become useless through inefficient water use and destructive practices. The project will also train women on proper operation of tree nurseries. The trees that are grown will be used for future watershed projects such as stream bank stabilization.

28 SEP 2012- Weekly Report Uploaded. Report shows pictures of rock bunds being constructed incorrectly. Work has been temporarily stopped until the contractor can travel to FOB Shank to meet with GA ADT II Agriculture Specialist to explain correct construction of rock bunds (meeting to be held on October 2nd).
