Project Description
On or about 2 November 2009 in the village of Qulcha Bazaar, Dehrawood District, Oruzgan province, a truck owned by Haji Abdul Hamid containing clothes and other commodities owned by Haji Khan was destroyed by bombs dropped by US aircraft. The event was verified by Bkhtoo police. Haji Khan produced paperwork as proof of goods purchased. He also received a signed confirmation letter from his Shura and produced correspondence from the Kandahar Provincial government's office certifying his claim. The allegation was independently verified through Air Force channels that U.S. air assets were operating in the area and that they had dropped ordnance.
Project Goals
The CERP battle damage payment is not an admission of legal liability or fault. Rather, these payments are gestures made by the US Armed Forces to express condolence to individuals and families. It is meant as a symbolic gesture and not as compensation for a loss.
