Project Description

This project will repair and pave 7.3km of the major streets within the city of Jalalabad. Work includes ditch, culvert and landscaping work.

Project Goals

Reason for Project: 640,000 people currently reside within the city of Jalalabad. Within the next 5 years, that number is expected to increase over 1,000,000 people. The current road infrastructure to support that many people does not currently exist. This project will give municipal services greater access to their growing population while simultaneously addressing sanitation of the city. The repair of the ditches and sewage drainage systems within the city will allow stagnating sewer water to be carried away from this densely populated city.

Desired Project Effects: The desire effect of this project is to allow the municipality of Jalalabad to provide the proper services and assist their capacity for city management. The sanitation improvements will greatly reduce the threat of disease and other health problems associated with poor urban life. The road network improvement will also increase the desirability of foreign investment into the business sectors which will, in turn, greatly improve the living conditions of the city.

Measurable Effects: With the improvement of these 7.3km of roads, 640,000 citizens of Jalalabad will be able to receive and have access to government services including, local police support, emergency services, trash collection services, and basic human waste disposal.
