Project Description

Construct new 18.65Km gravel road on existing dirt road from Gradez City to Sekh-Nurwal Village

Project Goals

The goal of this gravel road project is to provide improved access and traffic capability from Gardez city to the Southeast region of the Zormat district. This gravel road project will enhance commerce between local communities in Paktya, especially in Zormat District. Additionally, this project will help link the provincial capital's key commercial centers to one of Zormat District's most populated regions. Futhermore, this infrastructure improvement effort will provide efficient access to the provincial capital for essential services and facilitate the construction of the other key development projects in the region. This project will create temporary employment opportunities during the spring and summer months in communities that are located in an increasingly insurgency-prone area, contributing to stability. Comments: This road project is imperative because there is a large stream that runs year round down the center of the Zormat Valley. This stream severely hampers the ability of residents to access the road linking the city of Gardez to the Zormat Bazaar (a main thoroughfare). This road project is located on high ground and skirts the eastern slope of the valley. This project will serve a substantial population base and offer an alternate route between Gardez and the Zormat Bazaar.
