Federal health inspectors from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention inspect cruise ships twice a year, checking everything from kitchen equipment to dishwasher temperatures, and grade ships based on what they find. A score below 86 is considered failing. Cruise ships are also required to report all illness outbreaks affecting more than 3% of passengers or crew to the CDC. Inspections and outbreaks from 2010 to the present are shown below.

DO NOT USE (whirlpool/spa)-Backwash
The whirlpool spas are backwashed daily on an automatic cycle, however the water is not viewed through the sight glass or discharge point to ensure that it is clear at the end of the cycle on a daily basis.

Maintenance was performed on potable water tanks 2 starboard (11/08), 7 port (11/3), and 10 starboard (11/5). There was no indication in the records that the tanks were flushed with potable water or otherwise de-chlorinated until the free residual halogen was

Potable water tank 10 starboard was disinfected on 11/05. There was no indication in the records of the free residual halogen contact time.

Two of the four monthly potable water samples sites were repeated each month.
Potable Water-Cross-connection Control Program
The list of cross-connections and the backflow prevention device/method for each did not include the disabled passenger and passenger suite cabin showers, the Elro steamers, or the deck 8 (FZ6) Hydro Streamline dispenser in the trolley wash. These areas were all listed as "to be identified".

There was a hole in the bulkhead across from the door, exposing the insulation. It appeared a plug was missing.

There was a gap between the coving strip and the bulkhead juncture to the right of the door.
Preparation Room-
There were slotted fasteners in the food contact zone of the potato peelers.

There was a gap in the deck/bulkhead profile strip juncture to the left of refrigerator #D4VP5.
Galley-Deck 6 Soup Section
The door gasket inside the upper compartment of the hot holding unit next to refrigerator #D6MG17 was cracked.
Galley-Deck 6 Potwash
The potwash machine final sanitizing rinse temperature gauge read 140°F, and the inspector's thermometer placed inside the machine read 150°F for two cycles. Staff stated that all items are placed through the potwash machine. The potwash machine was in active use at the time of the inspection. This was corrected.
Buffet-Crew Mess
The sneeze guards adjacent to the plate dispensers on both serving lines were chipped along the side edges.
