Dr. Elizabeth Avegno is the principal investigator on the above referenced grant sponsored by the NIH-NIAAA. Dr. Nicholas Gilpin is the principal investigator on the above referenced IACUC project sponsored by Dr. Avegno’s grant. The overall goal of this project is to test the hypothesis that ventral tegmental area neurons projecting to the central amygdala are necessary for alcohol dependence-induced escalation in alcohol self-administration. The specific aims are to measure chronic alcohol withdrawal effects on activity of ventral tegmental area dopamine projects to central amygdala; and to determine the role of ventral tegmental area dopamine projects to central amygdala in escalated alcohol drinking by alcohol-dependent rats. As required by CM-35, Dr. Gilpin disclosed that owns (b)(4) shares in Glauser Life Sciences, Inc. The current value of his shares is (b)(4). Glauser Life Sciences, Inc. is a company that is developing treatments for alcoholism, chemical dependency, and PTSD. Glauser Life Sciences, Inc. is not involved in this project.
Brain Reward and Stress System Interactions in Alcohol Dependence
Project Narrative_________________________________________________________________________ The goal of the proposed research is to understand the contribution of brain stress and brain reward circuits to alcohol addiction. The proposed experiments will test how specific brain circuits change in response to chronic alcohol, and how these changes mediate excessive alcohol drinking. The results of this work are likely to reveal new targets for reducing alcohol misuse in alcohol use disorder (AUD).

Notes: When a more specific filing date is not available for an individual financial disclosure or conflict of interest form, we use the year the form was filed. If the year was not disclosed, we report the range of years covered by our public records requests. In a few cases, a start date was provided instead of a filing date. In those cases, we use the start date instead.
Fewer than 10% of records from the University of Florida and fewer than 1% of records from the University of Texas system were removed because they did not contain enough information.
ProPublica obtained additional financial disclosures and conflict of interest forms that we have not yet digitized and added to the database. You can download those disclosures in the ProPublica Data Store.
