Ms. Allyson Schreiber is the principal investigator on the above referenced F30 fellowship grant sponsored by the NIH-NIAAA. Dr. Nicholas Gilpin is acting as a mentor on this project. The purpose of this project is to test the predictions that 1) traumatic stress upregulates CRF-CRF1-ERK pathways in the ventromedial prefrontal cortex and that 2) this pathway mediates the escalation of alcohol drinking in high-stress reactive animals. As required by CM-35, Dr. Gilpin disclosed that he has a potential conflict for this project due to his relationship with a company whose business interests are aligned with the aims of this grant.
Prefrontal Cortex Stress Peptides in Traumatic Stress-Induced Escalation of Alcohol Drinking
This application for an individual research fellowship will provide training opportunity for a future physician- scientist. The studies proposed as part of the development plan will investigate the role of stress peptides in the prefrontal cortex in mediating traumatic-stress induced increases in alcohol drinking and nociception. The findings from this study will inform the development of effective treatment strategies for co-morbid PTSD and AUD.
