Project Description

This is a vital route through an underserved community. Despite high rates of unemployment, this community has registered their homes, are paying taxes, and now need to see visible signs of progress and commitment from GIRoA. 60 Meter Road is named since the planned open space is approximately 60 meters wide. Located at the halfway point of 60 Meter Road is a large cemetary. Multiple courses of action have been discussed with Mayor Ghulam Hamedi, Mayor, Kandahar City. The Mayor has agreed that a beautification/green space project would best demonstrate GIRoA's commitment to providing for disenfranchised communities such as the one along this vital route as well allow the extension of Government reach and capacity, support economic development, and build confidence in GIRoA.

Project Goals

This project will primarily provide for the beautification of a degrading community cemetery. A brick walkway will be installed around the cemetery to provide a bypass for pedestrian traffic on 60 Meter Road, park benches, rod iron fence, trees, various indigenous shrubbery, as well as solar lights will be installed.

Additionally, this project will complement 60 Meter road project by demonstrating GIRoA's commitment to preserving a culturally sensitive site rather than destroy or relocate it.

This project supports multiple lines of operation and will support efforts to bring stability to the community along this vital route; extending Government reach and capacity, supporting economic development, and building confidence in GIRoA.
