Project Goals
This project is part of a series to increase the agricultural output and employment in the Andar District. Band-e Sardeh supplies approximately 18,000 Hectares of land. This project will repair runoff damage to the dam face, repair and strengthen the road surface to prevent damage from military vehicles, install additional erosion protection near the emergency spill-way and install erosion mitigation measures. Despite being first identified as a project with significant economic and counter-insurgence effects, neither GIRoA, NGOs or other US Government resources have been able to address the identified deficiencies. A second study was completed in 2009 by GIRoA, followed by a third study in January 2012. All recommended repairs to the dam as a priority with significant positive impact to agricultural economy, secondary and tertiary benefits of increased coordination between GIRoA and ANSF will enable GIRoA led GOV/DEV driven security operations.
