Obama for America
8:35 a.m. ET
This:

Sheldon Adelson, the conservative billionaire Las Vegas casino owner, has pledged to give up to $X million -- whatever it takes -- to defeat Barack Obama.

We know it's not out of love for Mitt Romney, so why part with so much money? As President Clinton reminded us last week, sometimes the answer is as simple as arithmetic.

So let's do the math: According to a new report from the Center for American Progress Action Fund, Adelson could see up to $X billion in savings under Mitt Romney's tax plan versus the President's plan. That's how much Romney's policies would favor millionaires and billionaires.

If Mitt Romney wins -- $X billion more for him. If Barack Obama wins, millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share.

It's a highly cynical but straightforward calculation.

Today, you can help write a different equation:

Donate $X or more, and let's make sure this election is decided by millions of Americans, not a handful of billionaires:

[url]

Here's how it would work for Adelson in a Romney-Ryan administration:

-- Romney would keep in place the Bush tax cuts, and cut Adelson's income taxes by an additional 20 percent. Adelson savings: $X.5 million per year on income he earns as CEO. -- Romney's plan eliminates taxes on foreign profits like the ones Adelson makes on his Asian casinos. Adelson savings: $X.2 billion. -- Romney's plan maintains the current low tax rate on dividends. Adelson savings: $X million per year. -- Romney's plan removes the estate tax. Adelson heirs save: $X.9 billion. I honestly can't think of a more straightforward contrast in this election.

We don't have Sheldon Adelson, and with all due respect, we don't want him.

We're relying on more than 3 million grassroots donors like you, who are giving an average of $X.

Donate $X or more today and let's win our way:

an allergy to the truth

--

Labor Day marks many things -- but traditionally for political candidates, it marks the opening of the floodgates of negative advertising by opponents.

This November, we know our airwaves will be inundated with ads funded by shadowy anonymous GOP Super PACs with an allergy to the truth.

Our candidates must be prepared to fight back, get their positive message out and set the record straight. That's where you come in. Today, I am writing about five progressive Democrats who could use our urgent help.

Contribute $X right now to these five outstanding Democratic candidates

Joe Miklosi is in a tight race in Aurora, Colorado where he is taking on extremist Republican lawmaker Rep. Mike Coffman, a close ally of Paul Ryan and a supporter of his Medicare-ending budget. The latest polls show the race is neck-and-neck and Miklosi is only trailing by a small margin.

Annie Kuster is running in New Hampshire against Congressman Bass, a two-time supporter of the Ryan Budget, voting twice to gut Medicare. Annie is running a remarkable campaign and polls have shown her in the lead, which has made her a top target of GOP Super PACs.

Dan Maffei lost his seat in 2010 by the narrowest of margins and is back running in this Syracuse district. He is running against one of the Tea Party's favorite Republicans, Ann Marie Buerkle. The GOP Super PACs have circled their wagons to try to keep her in power. Dan needs your help.

Manan Trivedi is an Iraq War veteran and a primary care physician running against Republican incumbent Jim Gerlach in Pennsylvania's 6th. Manan has what it takes to beat Congressman Gerlach, but outside groups have circled this one as a must-win.

Raul Ruiz is also a physician and a problem solver running in California's 36th district. The son of farm workers, he takes on Republican Mary Bono Mack this November. This district is more winnable than ever, but that means outside GOP groups know it too.

These progressive candidates need our help today. Please consider giving $X to one or all of these outstanding candidates today.

Onward,

Howard Dean

just-released:

Reuters/Ipsos poll: Voters prefer Democrats 49% to 43% in the race for Congress we are within range of replacing the Tea Party Congress with a Democratic House for President Obama.

But first, we must close the spending gap.

Right now, the Republicans and their special interests allies are on the air with a multi-million dollar ad campaign attacking 22 of our Democratic candidates. We cannot allow these races to slip away simply because our candidates are drowned out by a wave of corporate special interest cash.

Will you donate $X or more today to fight these Republican attacks before tonight's ad buy deadline?

I've seen the Republicans' ads. They're a deliberate effort to mislead voters on issues like Medicare, Obamacare, and the economy. When the polls close on November 6th, we need to know that we did everything we could to set the record straight when it mattered.

Please chip in what you can to help us fight Republicans' deceptive attacks before tonight's ad buy deadline:

Nancy

Narrowed

Politico reports, “the presidential race has narrowed…to a collection of margin-of-error battlegrounds.” Today's numbers prove that President Obama's grassroots campaign can rival a campaign financed by billionaires. But if you let up on these close battlegrounds, President Obama and Senate Democrats will lose. Presidential Senate Source Florida Obama +4 Nelson D +1 SurveyUSA, Gravis Ohio Obama +4 Brown D +6 Gravis Virginia Romney +5 Kaine D +2 Gravis, CBS Nevada Obama +3 Heller R +2 PPP In the next 53 days we will face hundreds of millions of dollars worth of right wing attack ads. You can't be complacent now– if we don't have the resources to keep President Obama and Democrats ahead, they will lose at the last second.

Please click here and contribute $X before midnight tonight—we still have $X left to raise.

53 days left. Make every one count.
