#FDA will update soon on application backlogs related to shutdown and the efficient process we'll use to work through these priorities. Rough #’s: Normally we'd have gotten about 400 generic apps in Dec/Jan. For January we'd have received about 300 510Ks and a dozen novel NDAs.

@SGottliebFDA
@Carolynyjohnson Most sponsors were holding their applications during the shutdown so those applications will all come in now. Sponsors knew we couldn’t take new submissions, so few tried to submit applications during the funding lapse.

We’re announcing today that we plan to hold a public meeting of our General and Plastic Surgery Devices Panel on March 25-26 at #FDA headquarters to discuss a range of topics concerning the benefit-risk profile of breast implants. https://t.co/uTOUzi1Rmv
SteveFDA (R-D.C.)
@SGottliebFDA
This meeting seeks public input on benefit/risk considerations and possible measures to further address certain risks with breast implants to help ensure the public continues to have accurate, scientifically-sound information about the benefits and risks of breast implants.
SteveFDA (R-D.C.)
@SGottliebFDA
We encourage members of the public to provide comments to the panel and FDA on this topic. We plan to post more information and an agenda 15 days in advance of the meeting. More info about our work on breast implant safety is available here: https://t.co/uTOUzi1Rmv
