Project Description

This project will help to greatly reduce the risk of flooding to the local farmlands. This project will help to construct a flood defense wall in the Nahre Saranj area to help control the river during the critical flooding month. This project will help to reduce the amount of erosion suffered as the water rises and destroys croplands.

Project Goals

The goal of this project is to help mitigate the risk of flooding to the local farmlands. This wall will help to contain and divert the flow of the river during the increased flow months of the year. Typically, the river will overflow and flood the canal, which in turn leads to flooding and erosion of the nearby farmlands, damaging the crops.

Intent is to prevent potentially catastrophic erosion between the canal and the Helmand River, to regulate water levels in the Southern Green Zone, and to demonstrate the District Governor's ability and willingness to listen to the long neglected and disenfranchised Ishaqzai who reside there.
