Project Description
Construct a 25 km asphalt road between Alishang District Center and Dawlat Shah District Center. Construct IAW AED survey and design of road repair.
Project Goals
Reason for Project: Increase Afghanistan's capabilities to move people, move goods, and have healthcare access more effectively. Currently, the main road from the Alishang District Center to the Dawlat Shah District is in extremely poor condition. It is unpaved and largely unimproved; the 25-km drive between district centers takes in excess of 2 hours to complete. Desired Project Effects: Increase in economic export from northern districts. Decrease in overall cost of goods. A paved road between district centers will reduce the travel time from over 2 hours to approximately 20 minutes. The population north of the Alishang District center into Dawlat Shah is estimated at 50,000. A paved road running through this region will connect this population to the rest of Laghman province, the City of Mehtar Lam as well as larger population centers such as Jalalabad and Kabul. The population in Alishang and Dawlat Shah will have greatly increased accessibility to medical and other critical quality-of-life facilities. The estimated 20,000 farmers in the northwestern districts of Laghman will also be able to trade their goods and get more of them much further than just Mehtar Lam city, greatly increasing the economic capacity of this isolated region. PRT Laghman also requires contractors to use local unskilled labor in all projects. This project is estimated to employ approximately 450 local unskilled labors for the entire duration of the project, bringing much needed income to the areas affected by this project. Measurable Effects: Agricultural reports indicating number of jaribs of crops produced and sold will be monitored. Cost analysis will be conducted in northern districts to determine decrease in goods being sold.
Results
Alishang Road Phase II is 100% cmplete and usable.
