Project Description
Provide all labor, materials, and equipment to build a 15km aggregate surface course road between the Villages of Dumlum to Nuri, Alishang District, Laghman Province at Grid Coordinates 42S XD 01090 61851 to 42S XD 09579 64678.
Project Goals
Reason for Project This project will improve/build a 15 km gravel road in the Alishang District linking Nuri to Dumlum to Alishang and Mehtar Lam. This road will provide increased access to healthcare, farming markets, and job opportunities for approximately 11,000 families located along the route. The Mayl River valley is mainly a farming area that sells their products at the district center at Alishang and Mehtar Lam city. The road will provide a safe and reliable means of transporting agricultural products to the main markets in the Mehtar Lam and Alishang. This road project will also provide better access for emergency services to this remote but densely populated valley. This urgent humanitarian need will be the catalyst in an economic turn-around of the valley, while extending healthcare to the entire region. Desired Project Effects Provide safe and reliable access into the Mayl River valley. Extend access to healthcare into north-eastern Laghman Province. This project will employ about 500 local personnel for 7+ months. With this road, over 11,000 families will have quicker and more reliable access to Dawlat Shah, Alishang and Mehtar Lam, which will boost the economy within all of Laghman province. Upon completion of the road, better access to the job market in Mehtar Lam will be available which will increase the number of employed people in the region. Measurable Effects Increase 15% of produce in the Mehtar Lam Bazaar. Increased 25% of vehicles on the road. Higher employment, reduction in unemployment by 10%.
